Assig 6B

Assig 6A

Ryszard Horowitz
Horowitz’s imagery is surrealist. It often ressembles a painting because of the bold colors and stricking contrast it contains. But the sharpness makes it without a doubt a high quality picture. Horowitz’s pictures are impossible; the images mixed could not exist in real life. He is inspired by common day reality and society’s problems.

Jerry Uelsmann
Jerry Uelsmann works mainly in black and white. His pictures are dream-like, and seem not to have any political insunuation, unlike Horowitz’s. The amazing blending of the images makes them seem somewhat possible. Also, there’s spirituality, calmness displayed.

Assig 5B

Assig. 5A

Every picture was taken using a gray background and lights were on the sides of the person pointing at them. Every one of pictures was taken with a 400 ISO.
The two first pictures (J&M) were taken with vivid red as a color setting. The second and third picture (M&O) have a sunny light. The fifth picture (M-O) is black and white and lights were placed diagonally. The eight picture (O) was taken with white ball setting so that is why is blue-ish.

Assign. #3

I specially like the first two modified pictures. I believe the strong contrast makes them very intense; it showcases the complexity of them. For the second two modified pictures, I do not think the effects make them stronger or weaker, I think the almost monochromatic (sepia and red) part of it with a very light contrast makes them look more dull. Furthermore, although I think the soft focus is a very interesting special effect, I do not really like it for this picture. The last one is one of my favorite also because of the highlight/shadow ratio. The extra light, the tint of blue and the brightness of the colors makes it a very sharp image.

Walker Evans

Walker Evans (1903-1975) was an American photographer. He was hired in 1935 by Farm Security Administration to record the great Depression. The pictures taken showed the excruciating poverty during that time; those pictures are the ones he is most known for. He worked in black and white and only wished to record life as it was, trying to make very picture as objective as possible but always delivering a message. His camera was very big (an 8x 10 view camera), therefore his photos are well-thought and carefully done. Composition wise, he mostly put his subject in the center.

Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) was a French photographer; one of the most prolific ones in part due to his longevity. He is the co-founder of the Magnum Agency, an agency that promotes and encourages freelance photography. Cartier-Bresson is also considered a humanist photographer, having traveled to China, India, Spain, Russia and to the United-States. He is the father of 'the decisive moment', i.e., candid pictures. His 35mm light-weight and small camera allowed him to take these kinds of pictures. It also allowed him to experiment with different angles, as the ' Cardinal Pacelli at Monmartre', picture taken from above the crowd. As a true artist, his composition skills are displayed on his pictures. He is mainly a black and white photographer.
